Usually when you get this message unable to open license file is because the client computer cannot connect to the server or you are out of User Licenses.

  • Check your network connections.
  • Re-power switches (if you have good network connection)
  • If you put in a new router the IP address may have changed and you would need to restart the server.

If problem persists it could be a Microsoft Windows update that occurred when you shut off the computer.

If that is the case then go to settings (Click the Start/Windows Icon) and click the gear wheel.

You should get this Window below  (if you are on Windows 10) and go to Network & Internet.

Two things happen when windows does an update.

  • It makes your network Public instead of Private

Or

  • The network and sharing center was set to require a password.

As you can see below the network is set to Public. You can easily change it to private by clicking Change connection properties and selecting Private.

If the network is still in Private, then you need to go to Network and Sharing Center, a new window will pop-up

Then go to Change advanced sharing settings.

Then go all the way to the bottom and click on the bottom that says All Networks and click on the arrow.

If you see Turn on password protected Sharing is filled in. TURN IT OFF.

That should solve the problem. you are having.
